The Row Home

The corner row home was my first design of a realistic building in which human scale was a necessity. Certain design motives used in this project were carried over from the study of Le Corbusier's work in Le Villa Baizeau. A columnal structural system allows for free plan and free facade. Subsequently, a spindly and open facade was used to allow as much light in as possible. Two story spaces further facilitated light into the building. The building, which was proposed for an existing site open on 32nd & Winter street, used surrounding row homes as references for floor heights and window placement. This project marks the beginning of my architecture that is applicable to the real world. Drawings were done in AutoCAD and rendered in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

The Row Home - Redesigned

As the second rendition of the row house project, this project featured similar design with smal alterations. Where the previous project was completely supported by columns, this project incorporated a "wall" of columns along with a load-bearing wall for support. The basement of this project was further developed in terms of space and program, and the rooms were given more in depth program as well. Spaces necessary to a home such as bathrooms, bedrooms and communal spaces were added and further developed as well. This project marked a half-way point in the redesign that culminated in the following design. Drawings were done in AutoCAD and rendered in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

The Row Home - Redesigned... Again!

This edition of the row home design marked the final step in the design process. The largest change to this project was in the system of circulation, as well as additions of space within the construct. Large three-story spaces connect floors together, allowing light to flow between different spaces. An added stipulation to this part of the design process was to design two different buildings--one being an inset row home and the other being a corner house (a house with one facade open). The model pictured above is of the corner house, which showcases the newly added cantilever space, as well as the redesigned facade which uses fenestration to define the space within. Drawings were done is AutoCAD and rendered in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
